Adega de Borba marks this month of June and the beginning of summer with new harvests in its white wines. Summer is officially inaugurated, when the days are longer, lunches are wanted on the terrace, outdoor gatherings are also back and dinners last into the night. Adega de Borba suggests seven nectars for each moment or meal: Adega de Borba White 2021, Quintas de Borba White 2021, Montes Claros White 2021, Castelo de Borba White 2021, Adega de Borba Premium White 2021, Senses Viognier 2021 e Montes Claros Reserva White 2021.
The various white grape varieties used in the production of these wines bring with them the traditions and flavors of the terroir of the Borba region, with soils rich in shale, clay and marble. The perfect combination of the wisdom accumulated over centuries, the varieties, the soils and the microclimate of a region that develops between 300 and 440 meters of altitude, and which produces excellent wines, both to accompany traditional Alentejo cuisine and to harmonize with dishes from around the world.
The 2021 harvest showed an excellent performance, providing the different brands of Adega de Borba with increased quality. White wines with a lot of freshness, which stand out for the predominance of tropical fruit. New crops have also won medals in national and international competitions.
For young wine lovers, Adega de Borba White 2021 presents itself with a well-defined citrus color. Produced from Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro, this white wine with good aromatic intensity combines a ripe and fresh fruitiness. A wine to serve as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to seafood, grilled fresh fish and white meats.
Quintas de Borba White 2021, a white wine with a blend of grapes from the Roupeiro, Arinto and Verdelho varieties, in which the perception of fresh yellow fruits and minerality stand out, with a good pleasantness and unctuousness on the palate. A product only available for the catering sector and for the best specialized wine cellars.
From the best plots, from certified vineyards and in environmental sustainability for the production of DOC Alentejo wine, come the grapes that give rise to Montes Claros White 2021. A white wine that results from the combination of Arinto, Roupeiro, Antão Vaz and Alvarinho. Intense, with a perception of greedy tropical fruits, highlighting the volume in the mouth with excellent acidity.
Castelo de Borba White 2021 is produced from the Antão Vaz variety. A wine that has a citrus color of ripe lemon, with an aroma of tropical fruits and a slight spicy character. It has a fresh flavor due to the acidity and persistence of ripe yellow fruits with some scent. A great option to accompany pasta, seafood and fresh fish on the grill.
As a result of the 2021 harvest, there is also the Adega de Borba Premium White 2021, which will delight the most demanding connoisseurs of Adega de Borba. This wine is the result of an extremely rigorous production process, making it a white at the best level a Premium wine can be. Produced from the Arinto, Antão Vaz, Verdelho and Alvarinho varieties, selected in vineyard plots in an integrated production system. Vineyards owned by Adega de Borba’s partners who contribute so much to the environmental sustainability of the Alentejo region. It presents a citrus color, a young and intense aroma with notes of citrus fruits and orange blossom. Its flavor is very fresh, unctuous, with harmony between acidity, minerality and persistent tropical fruits.
The best varieties and the best soils give way to the best wines, an example of this is our Senses Viognier 2021. The Viognier variety demonstrates in this wine the oenological characteristics for the production of a quality white wine, very balanced and aromatic. With a ripe lemon color, this wine has an intense aroma of yellow stone fruits, with a fruity flavor of apricot and peach, with a slight acid structure to predominate. With a limited edition of 3,000 bottles, it is designed to accompany grilled fatty fish and well-seasoned seafood.
When we talk about elegance, Montes Claros Reserva White 2021 is a reference, produced only with the best wines resulting from different grape varieties: Roupeiro, Antão Vaz, Arinto and Verdelho. Accompanied separately, the Antão Vaz and Arinto varieties were fermented and aged for 3 months in French oak barrels with “batônnage sur lies”. This white wine has a greenish to golden color. The aroma is intense, complex, with an elegant character, suggesting notes of tropical fruits, pineapple and light vanilla, with a subtle presence of French oak wood. It is balanced in the mouth and the palate is soft, refreshing by the acidity and persistent with citrus and tropical fruits in the long finish. Ideal to accompany fish or even grilled meat.
