Held in Penglai following the model from Vinalies Internacional Paris, the 2013 Edition of Vinalies China was organised to strengthen the recognition of wine producers from all over the world. In the competition, 250 wines were evaluated according to the strict rules imposed by the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin), by VinoFed (the organisation which ensures the authenticity of the competitions) and by the UIŒ federation (Union Internationale des Œnologues), from which only about 70 wines were recognised and awarded.

According to Manuel Rocha, Adega de Borba’s CEO, “the notoriety and the rigour of international competitions like Vinalies Internationales enhance the recognition of the wines from Adega de Borba and our quality standards that keep on increasing. These awards reinforce our motivation as they symbolise the recognition of our products in the Premium sector where we have been investing more and more, and elevate our standards in terms of demands.”

In national and international competitions altogether in 2013 Adega de Borba has already been awarded 39 medals thus restating its prominent position in the national wine market.

Adega de Borba Reserva “Rótulo de Cortiça” White 2011 was produced from the white grapes recently introduced in Alentejo’s vine population which show its oenological characteristics for the production of great quality wines in the Borba region. Grapes from vines with moderate productivity allow us to produce fresh balanced wines with great structure. This wine has a clear aspect, a citrus colour and an intense aroma of tropical fruit and vanilla. The flavour is velvety, balanced in structure with notes of citrus fruit and a hint of spicy honey. The wine is harmonious and balanced.

Montes Claros Garrafeira Red 2009 was produced from a previous selection of grapes from old vines planted on schist soils with rigorous control of the grape’s productivity and monitoring of the evolution in the maturation stage for each grape and specific vineyard plot. The flavour is soft, fruity and fresh. This red has an excellent structure and a prolonged balanced finishing. The fatertaste is elegant and persistent.

Adega de Borba “Rótulo de Cortiça” Grande Reserva Red 2009 is a Limited Edition produced from excellent grapes which allowed us to create a wine with distinct quality. It was produced from grapes planted on the oldest vines in the Borba region, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet, two of the most emblematic and representative grapes in this region, planted on schist soils. With a soft filtration and a 12-month ageing in the cellar, this wine has a grenade colour and a good aromatic intensity. The flavours are of wild fruits, chocolate, tobacco and toast. It feels soft and fresh on the palate. The texture is strong and unctuous with notes of black fruits and spices. The finishing is silky, prolonged and persistent with the elegance only a Grande Reserva can have.
