Adega de Borba presents new vintages in 2014

Novelties include new vintages for our wines and for Adega de Borba DOP Olive Oil

28th January 2014: Adega de Borba was proud to present the launch of new vintages for three of its ranges –Montes Claros, Senses and Adega de Borba – during a tasting and lunch held at the Chef Cordeiro’s Restaurant. The tasting – which was prepared by Adega de Borba’s Head of Oenology, Óscar Gato, and by Chef Cordeiro for specialised wine critics – presented ten references in the market: nine wines and Adega de Borba DOP Olive Oil.Destaque_NovasColheitas
Among the novelties, Montes Claros Brut White Sparkling Wine 2010 delighted the guests’ palate before lunch, whereas Montes Claros White 2013 and Adega de Borba Premium Rosé 2012 were served to accompany one of the courses. The latter is a limited edition and a new reference in the market.
Within the category of reds, courses were accompanied by Senses Syrah 2012, Senses Touriga Nacional 2012, Adega de Borba Premium 2011 and Montes Claros Garrafeira 2009 during a commented tasting by Chef Cordeiro and the oenologist, Óscar Gato, who talked about the new references and the pairing with the meal.
In the category of fortified wines, Adega de Borba suggested two references: Adega de Borba Premium Red Liqueur and Adega de Borba Wine Spirit which accompanied a mini bitter chocolate tablet with almonds, an exclusive signature for this tasting by ELLG confectionary, responsible for the new Adega de Borba gourmet product range presented last month.
According to Manuel Rocha, Adega de Borba’s CEO, “the new vintages we presented symbolise a new cycle in the lives of Adega de Borba’s brands which reflect our performance and investment in terms of quality for our products.”
All the dishes were confectioned with Adega de Borba Extra Virgin Oil launched in the end of 2013, also tasted during lunch.

About the wines presented
Montes Claros Brut White Sparkling Wine 2010 has a citrine colour with yellow nuances and fine bubbles. Its aroma is elegant and of tropical fruits with a slight hint of almond. The flavour is young and fresh with a persistence of citrus fruits. This wine has a nice harmony in terms of balance between acidity and alcohol, and is ideal to start a meal as a fresh apéritif.

Montes Claros Colheita White 2013 is a combination of the Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro and Alvarinho grapes. This wine is balanced and young, the flavour is fruity with a persistent and full-bodied palate; the aroma has a good intensity with notes of tropical fruits and nuts.
Adega de Borba Premium Rosé 2012 was produced from the Aragonez, Syrah and Touriga Nacional grapes. It presents a well-defined red colour, an aroma of berries and a good intensity with slight floral and spicy hints. The aftertaste is balanced and young; spicy toasted notes with a floral and a harmonious, persistent and fruity finish.
Senses Syrah 2012 is a monovarietal wine with a full-bodied profile 100% granted by the Syrah grape, a grape which can be found in the region of Borba under exceptional conditions for the development of its main sensorial characteristics: freshness and ripeness. Its flavour is soft with a slight sweetness of sour cherry, full-bodied tannins with slight toast and great unctuousness in the long finish.
Senses Touriga Nacional 2012 has a strong violet colour. This single variety wine has a good aromatic intensity of jam and floral notes of violet. The flavour is soft, balanced in terms of acidity with a combination of ripen fruit and berries with spicy tannins.
Adega de Borba Premium 2011 was produced from selected grapes growing on the oldest vineyards of the region of Borba: Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira. It has a grenade deep colour. The aroma has a good intensity of ripen red fruits, jam and ripen pepper. The flavour is soft and elegant with notes of black fruits, coffee and chocolate. Fine persistent structure in the finish.
Montes Claros Garrafeira 2009 was produced from a previous selection of the oldest vines planted on the schist soils in the region of Borba. Deep grenade colour. Good aromatic intensity with strong notes of red fruits in jam, coffee, chocolate and spices. The flavour is soft and fruity, it has an excellent structure with a slight astringency of spice and toast; soft, yet full-bodied tannins of berries. The finish is long, balanced with a nice elegance and persistence in the aftertaste.
Adega de Borba Premium Red Liqueur is exclusively produced from the Aragonez grape. The colour is amber with nuances of red; it has an intense, rich and complex aroma of raisins, nuts and spices. The flavour is soft, fresh and balanced with notes of red fruits jelly, elegant with a strong persistent palate.
Adega de Borba Wine Spirit is Adega de Borba’s suggestion as a digestif after a nice meal. To be served at room temperature. Bright golden colour, intense and complex aroma, fine and velvety hints of almond and raisins. The flavour is soft and the long ageing in ‘limousin’ oak barrels intensifies the softness of the nuts, which are very persistent in the finish.
