Adega de Borba’s Sense Touriga Nacional 2011 was awarded with a gold medal at the 2013 edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles held in Bratislava, Slovenia this year. Senses Touriga Nacional thus adds one more medal to Adega’s portfolio in 2013, a total of five medals for this wine alone in 2013 competitions (1). Although fairly recent in the Alentejo region, the Touriga Nacional grape variety has reached a very good quality on soils in the South of the country, thus reinforcing the importance of the variety as one of the main grapes in the Portuguese patrimony.
In the UK Adega de Borba has already registered recognition of its portfolio in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2013, International Wine and Spirits Competition 2013 and International Wine Challenge 2013 competitions having been awarded with 15 silver and bronze medals and three “Recommended Wine” awards for Rótulo de Cortiça Reserva White 2011, Rótulo de Cortiça Reserva Red 2011 and Adega de Borba Rosé 2012. The results of the three competitions were presented at the London International Wine Fair, where the reds, whites and rosé categories from Adega de Borba competed in their various segments. This shows a true performance by the Adega which confirms a good start for the company this year.
In 2013 international competitions altogether Adega de Borba has already received 30 awards within its portfolio, a true recognition of the work developed by the Adega de Borba throughout half a century of experience.
Quoting Óscar Gato, Adega de Borba’s oenologist, “2013 is proving to be a year of excellent results for Adega de Borba in international competitions. We are very excited about this recognition, particularly regarding Senses Touriga Nacional 2011, as this wine symbolises the value of this important grape variety, not only for Adega de Borba, but also for Portugal.”
Adega de Borba Senses Touriga Nacional 2011
Having been recently awarded with five international medals, Senses Touriga Nacional 2011 has a soft flavour, is balanced in acidity, with tannins of ripen, fruity wild berries, persistent in the finish. For greater complexity and structure, this wine aged for 9 months in new French oak barrels and about 4 months in the bottle. With a strong violet colour, Senses reveals an aromatic intensity of jam with floral violet notes.
