Adega de Borba was awarded the Statute of Excellence SME by IAPMEI

A sole distinction in this category for the Alentejo region

Adega de Borba has just been awarded the Statute of Excellence SME 2013 by IAPMEI – Agência para a Competitividade e Inovação (Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation) – in a partnership with Banca and Turismo de Portugal (Banking and Tourism of Portugal), which included a set of SMEs with credit worthiness and profitability ratios above national average. This reputation sign reinforces the notoriety of these companies that contribute so greatly to the growth of the Portuguese economy and which maintain such high competitive standards in a particularly demanding context. They are managing to overcome the financial crisis responding with growth, consolidation of results and active contributions towards the creation of wealth and employment in each of the regions where they operate.
Adega de Borba was one of the seven companies distinguished in the category of “Wine and liqueur wines production”, the only company to receive the distinction in the Alentejo region. In Manuel Rocha’s opinion, Adega de Borba’s CEO, “This recognition awarded by IAPMEI is truly priceless in terms of value for everyone at Adega de Borba. To be awarded the distinction of Excellence SME means an even greater motivation for us to continue investing in the development of our business, not only in Borba and in the Alentejo region, but also at a national and an international level.”

Integrated in the biggest sector to be distinguished, the Industry sector, in 2012 Adega de Borba was one of the 1,000 companies to contribute to a national turnover higher than 5.8 billion euros and to the grant of over 43 thousand direct employment positions. In 2012 the total contribution from these companies to export was 1.7 million euros. They revealed a growth of 31.7% in their net results, the equivalent to an increase of 11% in their assets.

With this Statute, IAPMEI aims to promote the reputation of the SMEs which set the country’s competitiveness ability by their higher performance. The SME Excellence Statute is included in a IAPMEI company qualification programme which aims to grant notoriety and optimise financing conditions and competitive boost in the segment of leader SMEs. These are companies that show higher risk profiles which – given their growth strategies – are important levers for the economic growth of the country.
