Adega de Borba wins a gold medal with Senses Touriga Nacional 2010
at the Challenge Internacional du Vin – France 2012
- Silver medal for Montes Claros Colheita 2010
Adega de Borba has registered a remarkable performance in the 36th edition of the Challenge Internacional du Vin – France 2012 by being awarded with a gold medal for its red wine Senses Touriga Nacional 2010 and a silver medal for Montes Claros Colheita 2010.
Adega de Borba’s work in the field was then recognised at the highest level in a prestigious competition which has gathered in France a jury composed by 772 people to taste 4 600 wines from 32 countries. The two medals awarded to Adega de Borba contributed even further to Portugal’s position in this competition by being the third most awarded country, having France and Spain taken the 1st and 2nd places respectively.
Senses Touriga Nacional 2010 was produced from selected grapes that go through a very strict control of the maturation process. After the annual harvest period and the careful transport, the grapes were de-stemmed and fermented with total maceration in stainless steel lagares (mills) at a controlled temperature of 25 º C. The malolactic fermentation was performed in stainless steel vats. For the wine to gain more complexity and a balanced structure, it aged for nine months in new French oak barrels and for about four months in the bottle.
This wine produced from the Touriga Nacional variety which has now been awarded with a gold medal in France has a strong violet-red colour. It has an aromatic intensity of jam and notes of flowers, violets more specifically. The flavour is soft, with a balanced acidity level, tannins of fruit and berries combined with hints of spices that linger in the aftertaste.
As for Montes Claros Colheita 2010, awarded with a silver medal, this red was produced from the grapes of the best plots certified by the associate wine growers from Adega de Borba. After the de-stemming and crushing of the grape, an alcoholic fermentation was performed after which the maceration process followed – 6 to 10 days – at a controlled temperature of 25 to 28 º C. After the malolactic fermentation the wine aged for twelve months in stainless steel vats and for about three months in oak to refine its best characteristics before the bottling.
Montes Claros Colheita has a grenade colour with violet reflexes, an intense aroma of red ripe fruits and slight hints of spices. The flavour is soft and balanced; the tannins are smooth, fruity and spicy.
