People who live in Porto usually visit the place; ones who do not live in the “Invicta” city always have a nice pretext to visit the Portugal’s Northern capital. People who come from other places may enjoy the nice ride by train, because this month’s suggestion is just nearby the Campanhã train station: Casa Aleixo.
Casa Aleixo is an old and traditional place, founded in 1929 by a Galician immigrant. In 1948 Casa Aleixo was handed in to another owner. Ramiro Gonçalves de Oliveira and his wife, Maria Inês Pereira Ribeiro, took over and gave the name to the place.
This is a continuous project which has been run by Maria Inês and her son Ramiro Augusto de Oliveira until today. The house maintains its respect for the quality and the good service which can only be achieved by the two people who pour their heart and soul to run the business.
All the dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and cooked in a wood oven. It is of course traditional, we are all aware of that; but what exactly can we eat in this well-known place?
The two masters who run the business suggest: laminated octopus, hake filets with octopus rice, roasted veal… there is a great number of choices, but there’s one main ingredient: cooking is made with love, from the appetisers to the desserts.
At Casa Aleixo all clients are important and treated equally. They are welcomed by Ramiro Augusto. It is a very nice and cozy restaurant where one feels comfortable at all times.
One particular feature is that each room has its curiosity aspect, the rooms all have peculiar names: the kitchen is the “lab”, the dining room “the operating room”, the cellar “the pharmacy” and the cashier’s the “torture room”.
A torture? It is most certainly not! The warmth and caring by the esteemed owners of Aleixo will not let this experience be of any kind of torture! And what kind of prescription do you get from the “pharmacy”? A nice wine from the Adega de Borba!
