A classic is always a classic. Adega de Borba Garrafeira Red is one of those wines which pass on from generation to generation, always leaving a sense of both novelty and tradition: novelty due to the vintage’s own characteristics; and tradition because of the exclusive profile it has always had.
Garrafeira 2003 presents itself as a novelty: the image was refreshed, so it is now more modern. As for the wine, its spirit is the same as always: complex and refined, able to satisfy wine lovers’ passion for old wines filled with third sensorial nuances. It can be consumed immediately after bottling, but it also has a potential to evolve within the next five years.
2003 was a year of warm weather which allowed wines to have a great quality. This was the reason why it was possible to create a Garrafeira. The varieties which composed the batch are the traditional ones: Trincadeira, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet, cultivated on old vines on the chalky-clay soils in the region of Borba.
In total only 12,000 bottles were produced thus strengthening the quality and exclusivity of this garnet-colour wine. The aroma has a good intensity of ripened black fruits, nuts, spices and tobacco leaves; the flavour is soft, it has a good freshness in terms of red fruits and chocolate, a slight hint of toast, coffee and smooth spicy tannins with great structure, balance and finesse in a long finish.
The wine Garrafeira 2003 should be served at 16ºC-17ºC and is ideal to accompany meat dishes: game, lamb, pork, veal, cheeses or even traditional deserts and pastries.
