Sustainability

The wine sector depends on natural resources, solar energy, clean drinking water and healthy soils. There should be an ecological healthy integration of these elements. For that reason, the sustainable management of the vines and the winery is a top priority for Adega de Borba. We believe a responsible production generates higher-quality products.

Sustentabilidade

Adega de Borba has been implementing sustainable practices in both the winery and the vine, such as energy efficiency, efficiency in water management and waste management. The new winery, inaugurated in 2013, was built bearing this environmental care in mind. The hedge of the building “Green Roof” is composed by 12,000 sqm of the “sedum” plant, which allows us to reduce the temperature range of the two naves, thus reducing energy costs, because climate-controlled areas are no longer needed. Using “Ganimede” fermentation vats also allows us to reduce the energy consumption. These vats use the energy provided from carbon dioxide produced during the fermentation process, allowing the reassembly of the must to be made without using electric pumps. In the bottling lines we implemented a system that allows us to reuse the water during washings in the winery. Constant advise and training for the winegrowers allows them to manage the vine more efficiently, given that 80% of the vines of the associates from Adega de Borba have an integrated production.

Regional Development

Currently Adega de Borba works with 270 associate winegrowers who cultivate 2,200 hectares of vine, and who perform an important role – as a group – in the economic development of the region. Adega Cooperativa promotes their integration in the community through an active role in the regional development, thus contributing – directly and indirectly – to the livelihood of hundreds of families in the region of Borba.
